Dear community,
I run two guest houses in Mexico. As far as I know, tourists from abroad can have refunded the VAT they payed when returning to their home countries. Correct? If so, how can I help foreign guests to get refunds on what they spent as VAT for lodging with me?
Thanks so much in advance!
Nikolai
If you do not run your hosting as a business, the only VAT the guests are paying is the one charged on their Guest Service Fee. Which is a issue between the guest and Airbnb to claim it back.
Hello Emiel, thanks for you reply. In fact, as of October 1, airbnb started collecting 16% VAT on the entire booking cost in Mexico, as demanded by Mexican fiscal authorities. So that’s actually a big sum for every guest. It might still be a matter between airbnb and the respective guest, I don’t know.
