We have a block of 8 airbnb high use units and we are installing a new entry system. We are not sure whether to install smart lock system (of which there are many) or a hard wired intercom system which supports changing the codes. There are pros and cons of both but just wondering if anyone has any solid experience with this and what your opinions and recommendations are
Hi @Laura8056
I don't know what the hard-wired intercom system would look like, but the ones I've seen here are usually disconnected by building management or by owners to preserve the peace. Any system where a buzzer or intercom button can be pressed at 3am by people walking home from a pub, runs the risk of disturbing your guests.
Hello @Laura8056!
@Laura8056 Smart locks tend to be the most flexible option for high-turnover buildings like yours because you can change or expire codes remotely, track access, and streamline guest check-ins without needing staff on-site. They're also easier to scale across multiple units as your operations grow. That said, a hard-wired intercom can still be useful for building-level access.
For many multi-unit hosts, the best setup is a combination: a secure building entry system plus smart locks on each unit. It gives you full control, easy automation, and guest convenience. Whatever you choose, make sure you have a solid backup plan (like a physical key or override) and strong network reliability if you go the smart-lock route.
