A Good Deed

A Good Deed

Today I had a woman set a reservation for her Dad coming to town to visit his daughter in the hospital (she’s 13). He drove 30 hours from Mexico City, Mexico to be with her.

He spoke very little English and my high school Spanish did not help me. (Thanks google translate!)

Rather than have this Dad pay to stay I gave him the option of looking into staying at the local Ronald McDonald House! Between myself and his daughter that set the reservation for him (she speaks English) we were able to not only get him over to RMH to be a block away from his sick daughter in the hospital but I in turn with my moderate cancellation policy, refunded his three day stay 100%!

I’m feeling like quite the Superhost tonight. It took coordination with the hospital staff, his English speaking daughter and google translate to have this all come together!

How wonderful @Carol-and-Bernie0, that you put the human need before anything else. As a host I salute you!

Can’t  imagine how difficult it must have been for him with the anxiety for his child, a strange environment and lack of language. Every parent’s nightmare.

Well done!

A nice deed, indeed! Just don't tell Airbnb that they lost their service fee.

In this case I’d imagine Airbnb would be ok with this particular need of a Father coming from Mexico, not understanding English and having me provide a place next to the hospital to have him be very close by to his teenage daughter?, no? Airbnb cares more about a service fee than human illness such as this? I’m going to disagree and say they’d be happy I did what I did!

Thanks for your support though!

@Carol-and-Bernie0 This is such a great story I got chills!

You've set the bar very high and definitely will be remembered for your act of kindness and compassion. You make us proud!!! I don't think you could have done better even if you let him stay at your place for free. You enabled him to be in a position to be close enough to walk to see her, so his language challenge has been removed, which in turn gives him more coping ability.

Thank you! I felt awesome about doing this and am humbled by all the comments!

Carole & Bernie@

Well done, we can all do our bit & some of us do who have Guests who book in who are staying for Medical related matters.

I did a good deed for one of my guests, she has serious vocal chord issues with almost total loss of voice, and took her to Cornwall Park as she was missing her own sheep.

Sssh, don't tell anyone though as she was supposed to stay home & rest.... One of my favourite & best guests I've ever had.

We can all do good deeds in some shape or form.

It's the little things that count the most.

All the best

Awe! How sweet if you to offer your place! I am so thankful! 🙂

@Natasha111 I see you are from an area I have been to and loved as a teenager! I lived in CO and made two trips to your area while there! I am dating myself and stood on the four corners the Christmas of 1975...it sure looks a lot different today! I also loved Mesa Verde and the surrounding area! How awesome!! If we are ever there I will definitely be in touch! 😉 Carol
