I am anew host; with a 2 bedroom house. First guests left last Thursday and left a note saying what a great time they had; and advised the downstairs bedroom ac didn't seem to be cranking cold air. Had the ac guy out the following day only to find out motherboard on mini split unit died and we need a new unit. Purchased a new unit ($900.00) on Friday and waited fort he ac to start the install. he started but couldn't finish that day. In the meantime I messaged the guests scheduled to arrive at noon on that Friday of the situation so they would be aware. The ac man came back Saturday to complete the install Saturday and it was working when he left that evening. Next day, Sunday, guests advise the kids staying in the downtsairs room had a terrible night; ac did not crank cold. We checked it and sure enough, the brand new unit was not working properly. Of course the AC guy does not work on Sunday; so they had another night of no ac in one bedroom (now 3 nights with one room no working ac). We encouraged them to open the windows, and use the ceilng fan and the floor fan that was in the closet this time (which apparebtly they did not do either the first 2 nights). I offered them right a way a few days free; or the same week free next year wuith they declined They are looking for a $ reimbursements.
What would you consuider fair? If the house is rented for $225.00 per night for the 2 bedrooms; would a 50% reimbursement per each night w/out ac be fair? $112.50 for each night with no ac in the downstairs bedroom?
