I recently had a guest get very upset because we don’t have locks on our guest rooms that lock from the outside- he said he was worried someone would go into his room and steal from him while he’s gone? Has anyone else run into this?
@Tess-And-Nathan0 I see you list a couple of private rooms in your home. So this guest thought "someone", meaning the guest in the other room, might steal from him? I guess some people might find that a concern- I've read similar things here before. I also list a private room in my home, but I only host that one room, so it's never been an issue. Any guest who's fearful of the host stealing from them shouldn't book a shared-home listing, because even if there's a lock on the guest room door, of course the host is also going to have a key to it.
I'd say if you have more than one guest room, it might be a fair idea to put locks on the doors that can be secured from the outside if that gives guests peace of mind.
@Tess-And-Nathan0 I saw that you have two listings. If they are in the same house with the same house entrance, I would suggest that you install door locks on each bedroom door. It does not cost much but provide safety as security to the guests. They have peace of mind.
Some guests told me that it is great that I have door lock on the bedroom door. Most of my guests lock the bedroom door when they exit the house.
we are renting 3 separated rooms in the apartment to 3 students (long term). We installed locks in every room because they have a right on privacy.
