CAN I ASK MY GUEST FOR ID?

Even though i am assuming that Airbnb is asking my guests for their goverment ID, can i still ask my guest before coming to send me a copy of their DL?

@Emma21 in my country we need to fill the guests' passport number / ID on the taxation online system. So, we definitely need to have that number. When I learned it, I started asking it from my past guests by email and some of them did not reply. Then, I asked Airbnb about it and they told me that neither the guests nor Airbnb are obliged to give me those data unless I write that requirement in my House Rules. That's what I never faced this problem again. So, I suggest you put that in your rules, too.

Now, I am not sure about sending copies online, because the guests might be afraid of internet hackings. But anyway, once you clearly express your requirements before booking, you have the right to ask. If they have any problems, they won't book.

Hi @Emma21

You can't assume BNB is asking for government ID unless you have set your listing requirement that all guests must have photographic and social media ID.

You can put it in your house rules that you want copies of government ID. However if this isn't common in the US you might put guests off and if you ask BNB to do this in your listing settings, there is no need/benefit in you doing so.

Personnally I wouldn't book somewhere that asked me to send photo ID in advance because of the risks of fraud.

What sort of fraud are you afraid of?  I d is shown all the time...?  Try every airport hotel and liquor store... you have
