Just curious what other hosts are doing, generally speaking, if they receive a last minute cancellation due to the arriving guests having Covid? Arrival date is today and it's highly unlikely I'll be able to rebook; cancellation policy is firm and reservation was made over a month ago. I'm assuming that, unless the guess contacts Airbnb directly and requests an exception, I will receive notice of a full payout tomorrow, minus the cleaning fee.
But then...I wonder if I should be offering a full refund, or the option to stay at a future date? This guest would have been our first at this property and the cash infusion is needed, not to mention reviews.
Update: Spoke with CS to understand my options. So - I will first be offering the guest an alteration (to stay in the future) and otherwise will offer a 50% refund. I know that they can pursue a 100% refund by presenting proof of illness to Airbnb if they wish. But my main concerns right now are to make sure I don't get penalized for the cancellation (so hoping guest initiates it) and that I don't get a negative review for how I'm handling the cancel. Happy to hear suggestions from others.
You can only change to reservation to a future date if change request is initiated (and confirmed by the guest) before check-in time.
If cancelled by the guest (NOT by you) they have the option to cancel under "extenuating circumstances" as being sick from Covid (Airbnb will ask documents for proof)
If the guest cancels "normally", your cancellation policy will calculate the refund (if any)
If you want to provide more refund, it can be done via resolution centre.
Hi @Nicole2223
I thought you might be interested to know that we've announced some changes to the Covid Extenuating Circumstances policy recently:

Hope this helps! Let me know if you've any questions.
