I see on the help desk that I won’t be able to view the guest’s profile picture until the reservation is confirmed.
Is this something new?
Being that the room is in my home, I’d like to see who is staying here.
Thank you.

@Gordon0 You may not want to publicly answer this, but I'm curious- did this profile vanish soon after because you reported it as discrimination, or did it just get caught by Airbnb? I mean, I know they don't just read all the messages people send, unless it is called to their attention for some reason. And an algorithm can't pick up the nuance of a message like this.
I can see where if a guest reports this discrimination it would lead to the host being delisted, but if the guest either doesn't catch it as discrimination, or doesn't report it, don't you think there are hosts still getting away with this?
And could you explain what the difference is between this host being able to see a profile photo of you before booking, or after, has to do with it? Because your profile photo doesn't include your partner/husband- she responded the way she did after reading your booking message.
And if your profile photo did include a photo of your partner, and she could see it before accepting your booking, and declined, what's the difference to you? Prejudiced is prejudiced, why would it matter if you were declined before or after the booking was confirmed?
There have been several posts on the forum regarding this profile photo issue from guests who are in demographics which get discriminated against, who have said they would prefer to be declined by a racist or homophobic host before the booking is confirmed, rather than after.
And what about hosts who may have tons of listings, use IB, and don't really pay much attention to a guest's messages? If you booked a place like that and arrived to find the host was taken aback that you and the man you arrived with were going to be sharing a bed, wouldn't you have preferred not to put any $ in this host's pocket in the first place?
I seriously doubt if the majority of hosts out there are discriminators, I just don't see why all hosts have to have what they may consider a valuable tool taken away from them just because some hosts may be prejudiced.
@Robert613 What gets me is that lots of these people have selfies plastered all over Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Tinder, etc. yet when it comes to requesting to stay in someone's home, they want to remain anonymous.
I only had one booking that I had a wary "feeling" about based on the profile photo. It was a very clear face photo. She looked Asian or Native American, but that wasn't my concern at all. It was that she looked quite "corporate"- business suit, pearls, etc. My place, while far from primitive or rustic, is in the Mexican countryside- and down a bunch of dirt roads. She turned out to be a nice guest, clean and friendly, gone most of the day, but my feeling turned out to be reality- she wasn't particularly adaptable, and a bit entitled -she even texted me from the Airbnb she was staying in for 3 days before moving over to mine, at 3AM, to say there was loud music coming from somewhere and she couldn't sleep. Like I was supposed to do something about that. And anyone who has been to , or researched Mexican culture, knows that they are enamoured with noise- the louder the better- music at ear-spliting decibel levels, firecrackers, etc. That's one reason people choose my place- it's relatively quiet out here. But it is a 20 minute walk from town and it never occurred to her to bring a flashlight (she had one on her phone, but said it wasn't very strong) even though she was taking a course in town that she knew wasn't over until 9PM. She gave me my one and only 4* Location rating.
I can’t see guest pictures even after they have booked why is it they see my picture but I can’t see who is staying or booking my place this is a safety concern for me
My cartoon guests, who had a name in Chinese calligraphy, who arrived on my doorstep a year ago settled in my guest room and seemed well happy. An hour later 2 other guests turned up saying they had booked with me, sheer panic went through me could I be double booked ?? Fortunately after a lot of broken language dialogue discovered 1st lot of guests were actually booked 4 doors down which has a similar coastal address ( we do live by the sea). Bags packed, bed changed, room cleaned twice in space of 10hrs. I can laugh about it now but at the time I had a near complete meltdown. So yes something more has to be done about the profile id on the confirmed booking an at least a name that’s recognisable.
@Mairi16 I can imagine your panic. My daughter's boyfriend had booked them a one night stay at a bed and breakfast that had many rooms. They arrived, and somehow checked in, had showers and were lounging about in the common space when the owner came back to the place and approached them, saying there must have been some sort of mix-up, as they had a different set of guests booked for that room, and that the place had no vacancies at the moment. The boyfriend checked his booking, only to realize that he had entered the wrong month- he had booked for a month hence. They all had a good laugh about it, and my daughter and her boyfriend apologized, packed up and found a hotel room.
i get guess that don't read your rules, won't tell you if they have small kids under 2 yrs. and get mad when you asked them . i had a guest book for some one else, had brought an extra 2 people. I have in my rules I will charge for guest over 4. I found out she had extra guest when she was asking could she use my Washer and dryer (which is for housekeeping only.and its in my rules ) but i was trying to be nice and let her use it , sent my co=host over to unlock laundry roomand that's when she notice the extra peopl she admitted to airbnb that she had booked for someone else, brook several other rules and airbnb made her pay nothing and i think when guest lie and book with her I D for someone else they should be block. then she had the nerve to give me a bad review. airbnb would not remove her review or make her pay for other guest they told me she refused to pay.
