Cancelations

This would be a question of ethics or trechery. A hosts or owner has estabished a strict refund policy with air BnB. With less than 7 days notice ( 5) a renter declares a medical emerency staying at another rental location.  The guests asks for a change of schedule to a new date with a stating date in the future. If agreed to this would aleeve the responsibility of the payout from AirBnb for cancelation.. After all it is a new booking. Now with the new schedule of arrival the guests does make the 30 day cancelation notice in a timely manner.

This now leaves the guest or renter with no respondsibity to the first rental time or the second rental time requested.

it leaves the host now with two canceled rental times and no payout.

Please advise on the loop hole in policies and ethics

 John

@John216  Everything you list is correct and this is a loophole more guests are becoming aware of in order to reduce the damage of their cancellation.

The one thing I found incorrect, though, is under a strict cancellation policy, the host would still receive 50% of the reservation even if the guest cancelled 30 days in advance.  So essentially, the host would still get SOMETHING.

You do not have to accept a change of dates, it is a well known way of avoiding or minimising the cancellation charges.
