Cancellation

Hi there

A guest has requested ME to cancel his booking which means I will have an unwanted cancellation message on my profile and I will be held liable for cancellation fees.

He made a reservation without telling me that he is bringing a child when my profile quite clearly states that our home is not child friendly.  His friend also tried to book and mentioned that they also had a child, so I had the opportunity to decline the friend's reservation as he was honest about their child.  As I had already unknowingly accepted the first reservation, surely I shouldn't have to be responsible for the cancellation fee?

The only choices I seem to have are to Cancel or Keep the reservation.  I can't have the guests here as I have large, very boisterous dogs, a modern sharp tiled staircase with no railings, an unfenced swimming pool and a deck with a sheer drop on the one side.  What shall I do?

Please help!!

Many thanks and Kindest Regards

Deb

@Deborah125 you must not cancel or you will be penalised. Even if you get an email from Airbnb asking if you agree to a cancellation do not accept it - you get penalised. In the circumstances Contact Airbnb and explain the situation to them. I am sure they will accept what you say and help the guest to find somewhere else without penalty to you.

Many thanks Victoria!

I have written to the guest to ask him to cancel on the site from his side as he booked with a child even though my site is quite clear on the child policy.  If he does not do so, I shall contact Airbnb as you have suggested.

Kind Regards

Deb

He is not going to cancel himself. He has already clicked the button to change/cancel and he checked the box to put the responsibility on YOU. Do not accept the change. Don't wait, get on the phone to airbnb now or send a msg on twitter  to airbnbhelp.

Yes, what @Victoria57 said. They violated your policy. You do  not cancel.

I would encourage the guest to contact Air BNB at the phone number that is on the reservation confirmation.  That way the guest can work with Air BNB staff to find a suitable relocation.  Doesn't need to be a contest between host and guest.  Let Air BNB earn the fee they charge the guest.

What I want to know is why you want to kill/main your child that badly? Booking in a place which clearly is dangerous/unsuitable is madness.

Reach out to Airbnb and tell them you cannot accept this person because they have a child and you have a no children clause. Ask Airbnb to reach out to the guest and find them suitable arrangements for a child in tow.

I once had a woman book IB and after the booking she continued to email me with unreasonable demands such as wanting to come to my home 6 a.m. to pick up the key, requiring hot tea uon her arrival at midnight, and that she would be cooking all night and would also require my full kitchen in the morning to prepare her husband's breakfast. I reached out to Airbnb and they were good enough to find her another place. I did not have to communicate with her at all.
