Cancellation

Can anyone explain to me why Airbnb is letting guests cancel after the guests check in date? Also why Airbnb calls it a cancellation if a guest checks out early? The guest checked in on March 24th and left April 2nd, the reservation was through April 6th. Airbnb gives the host the option of a full refund referring to this as a cancellation. I have had issues with this same guest cancelling after they were supposed to check in and Airbnb refunded them all of the money, even for the days that they were supposed to be checked in, they called and cancelled after the check in day. I did not approve it. I am feeling like Airbnb is more on the guests side rather than the host.
