Changing reservation

Changing reservation

Question: I made a request to change my reservation from two nights to one three days before arriving and my host rejected the change. I have now paid for two nights. Isn't this unfair?

No. Why should the host lose money because you have changed your arrangements.

You can ask them as a favour if they have a last minute booking for the night you cancel if they can consider a partial refund.

Dear Nat,

I dont think its unfair, the host can deny your request of changing a previously confirmed reservation.

Have you checked your hosts minimum stay requirements? Maybe your host doesnt accept bookings of only one night.

Your request came 3 days prior to check in so it is a last minute change.

Depending on the area your host is, he/she might not have enough time to find guests to make up for the lost night and also most likely rejected some potential bookings earlier while you stilll had a 2 night reservation.

It all depends on the type of cancellation policy the owner has which you agreed to when you made your reservation.  I have strict cancellation on my rental, which means a 50% refund up to 1 week before arrival.  You can always choose not to stay the extra day, but it looks like you'll have to pay for it.  3 days notice does not leave a lot of time for the host to rebook the space.

I do not think it unfair.  I have a three night minimum, if guest only stayed one night I would end up paying for them to stay here what with cleaning, laundry,  preparation time etc.

@Nat8 has a flexible cancellation, but maybe no bookings, Flexible is not recommended, if you have been cancelled a few times a t short notice you will realise why.

Suggest your guests speak to BNB - contact details 2nd post Community Help forum. It's normally quite straightforward to the guest to go into their booking hit the change booking and make a change so not sure what is happening.
