Child locked himself in a room.

Child locked himself in a room.

Our airbnb guest had a bunch of kids with them.  The master bedroom has a lock on the door but we haven't had keys for that in years.  It's never been an issue.  Somehow our current guest's 2year old child got in the bedroom closed the door and locked it.  We ended up having to go over there and break the door to get him out.  Is this something we should file for through the security deposit?  Or eat is, since we didn't have keys?  I feel it can go both ways.  Some help would be great. Thanks

Hi @Jordan27

in my point of view, is your fault, is your house so is your responsability prevent any kind of trouble, and make the house safer for a child.
if you ask a refound to airbnb for that, I think you will make them laugh. 🙂
what can really happen is that the guest can ask a refound to you for the trouble, even if nothing really happen, or he can point out on the review that the house is not child proof...

good luck

@Jordan27 Unfortunately, since you didn't have a key to one of your own locks, I'd say that the expense is clearly yours and not the guest's. Actually, you're quite lucky that the child didn't end up in some dangerous situation, in which case you could've been liable for all sorts of things. You dodged a bullet. Be grateful.
