Clogged toilet

Clogged toilet

We have an old house that struggles with large amounts of toilet paper in the pipes. We have a sign posted above the toilet warning about this. A guest checked out without telling us that the toilet was clogged. We had to call a plumber to snake the toilet. The plumber was positive that it was too much toilet paper and had just happened - assuring us that it was the guest that just checked out. The fee was $120. Can we pass that fee on to the guest?

@York-Management-Group0  No plumber can say when the first over-paper happened. You can often only see the results after the initial pipe slow down has occurred, and then more waste builds up behind it. There is no way to pin this to a particular guest. Since you are a Management Group, surely you can have a maintenance person snake the toilet every quarter since you know this is a problem. Even I can snake a toilet. It really isn't a skilled job.

I have an older home and this has happened a few times. The last time it happened the plumber pulled out wipes, which the current guest was not and did not use. So as @Susan151 mentioned, there is little hope of pin pointing it to a specific group. Please don't tell me you stock the bathroom with Charmin Extra Quilted toilet paper because of it's luxuriousness?? Scotts 1000 single-ply is the way to go for fragile plumbing.

Just paid $180/hour a couple of hours ago this Memorial Day Saturday for a plumber to pull out a clog caused by...cosmetic wipes.  He estimated it to be 3-4 days old...the same guests who broke my no smoking rule and left butts in the flower pots out front.

I can prove the smoking, but not the clog.

Thank goodness the current guests who were inconvenienced by the bad guests’ personal hygiene were gracious enough to be good sports...actually thanked me for fixing it quickly so it didn’t negatively impact their stay.

The financial cost of those flushed wipes and the dry cleaning of the drapes and bedding to get rid of the cigarette smell  was 3x what I made for that stay.

My review will be honest and it will  be 1st ever “thumbs down.”
