I have a $250 damage deposit set up in my pricing, however, depending on age and purpose or trip I up the damage deposit to $500. How do I do this?
I notice you can select "send special offer" and it asks to include all the fees but doesn't mention a damage deposit. Is the damage deposit set up in pricing automatically applied to special offers, or should that be included in special offer price?
Furthurmore, if I want to "up" the damage deposit, is the best way to do this to add the difference (250) to the special offer pricing and then the guest will also be charged the regular 250 I set up in my listing?
TIA

No-one collects it - it only comes into action if there is a claim. Reports on the forum give the impression that claiming is not all that straightforward. You would need proof, damage quotes and guest must admit to damage.
@James371 You might be thinking the Security Deposit is "collected" by Air BNB but it is not. See the Help Center article about security deposit. In that case, you should set your security deposit at an appropriate level of potential damage as even a good guest can cause damage. Special Offer is not the process for security deposit.
Ok, thanks. Yes, I do mean security deposit. My mistake then. I was under the impression airbnb collected the security deposit. I do set it at what good guests, but once in a while a situation comes along where I want more. (Bachellor parties, 21 and younger, etc.)
Linda, I'm a little confused as in the help articles it talks about setting up the security deposit in pricing settings and how you can not do the transaction outside of the site. So if you say that airbnb does not collect it, then who does and how? Seems to be conflicting info. Thx

Thanks so much. I understand now. I'm just used to how other rental sites handle the security deposit and it was confusing me.
If you really need a conventional Security Deposit AirBnB is not for you.
