Decline Reasons

I tried to reserve a room on Airbnb but the host declined without providing a reason. May i get to rate that host too? I meant if you do not want people to rent your place then why listing it?

Hi, decline reason is an option the host must choose, it's shared with Airbnb only. But would be polite of host to sent you a also a message. You can't rate the host on this (except "report this host" on profile). Better move on to the next opportunity ! Best regards,Emiel

I have yet to decline a guest, if I do then I would most likely not wish to share the reason why.

As an aside the vast majority of people who make enquiries who do not subsequently book never respond so works both ways.

@Suzanne253, sorry you had that bad experience!

Maybe instead select a listing that has Instant Booking?

You do not have to wait for a host to approve your booking.

I decline a lot of guests. At the end of the day its my house and I want to make sure the guests are the right 'fit'. The island we live on is a tourism destination so attracts all kinds.

Maybe your host just didn’t feel that you were the right fit. I would just move on. And no you shouldn’t be able to review them just because you feel rejected.

I am interested in what you would want to rate a host, @Suzanne253.  As a community of hosts and guests there are so many reasons why the "connection" is accepted or rejected by both sides.  Would you be willing to share your thoughts?

@Suzanne253, if you're curious about the reason, from what I have read in this forum, hosts most often don't accept because the rate is too low or they have forgotten to update their calendars. Sometimes they are worried - if the guest has poor reviews, but it's not the case here for you I think.

@Suzanne253

How did you rate your previous hosts ? Some do a reverse search - if you did not leave a review for a stay for example, it could backfire.

Hi all,

Thanks everyone for your kind replies. For my past review for places I stayed, I had given 2/2 5-star review, and also I got good reviews from the hosts too. No negative review so far, so I think my profile definitely is not the reason.

Yes I felt rejected. I got a declined message yesterday saying "sorry no available" - that's it, just three words. I am surprised because I stated in my message to the host that I would travel with my husband, and would take the day tours so mostly we would not be at home. We will only need a place to sleep, so I do not think any host does not like this type of guests. But anyway, it is just my thinking, and i do respect others people way of thinking. However, I can't help but having negative thoughts because I got rejected in a very impolited way. This is why I wanted to rate the host.

I think @Marzena4 gave me a very reasonable answer. Perhaps the host forgot to update the price.

Thanks again for your replies.

Sounds like they forgot to update the listing - and it was booked from another service or relative was staying there. Ive done that a couple of times.

But i always explain that. Looked like their English was limited, too.

Dont take it personally!

Absolutely, it would have been booked, or only just now as an overlapping request. Hosts who multilist will have this happen. Also, poor English. Do not feel rejected! The guests I decline have not read the listing, or have ignored what they read. I declined one guest today (and believe me, I really never ever want to decline as my ranking is hurt) because I have a max of 5 and no young children, they were 6 adults and a baby and a toddler (total 8 guests). Either haven't read, or ignored what they read.

You sound like a perfect guest to me, welcome any time.

I guess indeed booked. Or forget to update calender and was not available. Instabook is not 100 proof. We hosted people last year but last minute. They booked with instabook but the hotel manager was also accepting bookings via other sites and direct booking from his own website. The people ended up having no place to stay. When they arrived he had no clue and just apologized. Leaving them at 8pm without a place and also with no decently priced hotels in the vicinity.

Here also people write on the forum....i have reservation but i never accepted. A bit of topic....i know. But they should do their homework better. Its actualy a business they are running
