Discrimated Against, Kicked Out on Christmas Eve, Reservation Canceled & Money Kept

Hi I still have an unresolved case from Christmas eve, when I was discriminated against due to my religion (your people are the reason Christ was crucified), kicked out of my Airbnb, had all my belongs placed outside in the rain (the weather from that day can be verified), was threatened into keeping silent, and hand approx $1000 taken from my reservation even though I never canceled the booking. I have been repeatedly told there would be resolution and there has not. To add insult to injury my review of the host has been deleted while the host's review of me has remained... I am not sure why I was treated so unfairly in this situation but I refuse to be ignored into obsolescence and will not stop messaging until justice is served. If I can not get assistance from AirBnb I will find a way to go public with this case and have documented all of the message exchanges between the host and myself as well as between AirBnb and myself. I have been a loyal host and guest of AirBnb since 2011, have hundreds of reviews and yet AirBnb sided with a host that had zero reviews. It's important to note that the host was on heavy medication at the time of hosting, and it should appear obvious through here messages that she was not stable at the time of the interaction. This was a dangerous situation for me that could have escalated much more than it did. Please, please, please, can someone at AirBnb help me feel like there is some sort of care and consideration for those of us that get treated this unfairly from this platform? Thank You.

Your host could not have been that medicated to realise you were operating a scooter rental business out of her property, I think you got what you deserved, you sound like a smart alec to me.

 

Why are you assuming I was "operating a scooter rental business out of her property". Are you aware of how companies like Lime and Bird work? Please do some research before calling me names. 

I think a great deal of credit should be given to the host in this case, as she acted decisively and got rid of the parasite

You don't say why your host 'kicked you out on Christmas Eve' but she does, very eloquently..

 

It seems like it was nothing to do with 'religious discrimination'. Can you clarify in what way you feel you were discriminated against?

As an experienced host yourself you know that if a guest breaks the house rules of a host they can be asked to leave and don't have the right to a refund other than that offered under the hosts cancellation policy.

 

If I found out you were charging 16 scooters at my listings and running a business from there I would kick you out for breaking the terms under which you booked.

The reason I don't say is because I was threatened multiple times by the host to remove my review and my side of the story or else she would try to get me deported. Also I was told if I removed my review she would "consider" refunding some of my money. My side of the story was removed but her's remained.

As a highly experienced host and traveller  yourself, you will know an individual host in a country can't threaten to get you deported, simply because of a bad review that would be simply ridiculous.

 

So can you tell us in what way you are disciminated against? And what actually happened?

 

Was the host lying when she said you bought 16 scooters to her place overnight and charged them at her property?  It certainly sounds like you were intending to run a scooter business if that was the case.

I copied and pasted the entire conversation I had with the host plus added a few photos. I hope this provides some clarity. Of the over 100+ please I've stayed I've never had an experience anywhere close to this.

It's easy to pick a side when only one person is allowed to keep their review up while the other one has theirs removed. I was silenced and she was not.

P.P.S. Your place was rebooked, and I've asked inquired to AirBnb about having my review removed. So can we please make peace and can you please refund the money of mine that you kept? I don't have a lot of money and I do not currently make an income. I give a lot of what I've made from past investments to charity and it would really help if you'd be so kind. If not, that's okay. Please Lynn, for the love of God, just stop. We both feel hurt and betrayed and continuing to dwell on this isn't going to do either of us any good. I'm dealing with making alternative travel plans, and you're dealing with recovering from an intense surgery. We both have other things to focus on. I have no doubt in my mind your intention was to recharge the scooters in my loungeroom every night; and you are probably doing that now to some other non suspecting victim whose home you are renting through AIRBNB . . .

 

Let me ask you . . . Are you here on a working VISA or holiday visa?  Are you allowed to run your "RIDE" Scooter Business here and are you paying taxes on the money you earn here? 

 

Has the Gold Coast City Council approved your scooters around town and does the Australian Customs department know that you are working here and making money from your business that is probably not even registered  . . .? 

 

My business does a lot of work for the Gold Coast City Council and I know many people there; a quick phone call today will answer my questions . . . and a quick phone call to the Australian Customs Department also . . .

 

I have photos of all your scooters lined up in my driveway  . . . and the utility vehicle with scooters on it, the RIDE logo and number plate 614 YIP.

Lyn, I will not contact you again, and I expect the same from you. Just so you know,  your accusations about my "intention to use" her "place as a business" is absolutely false. I am the founder a dockless e-scooter company that has a community network of chargers that collect and charge the scooters every night, it is not something I do myself. However there were issues that arose and I had to scramble to bring a dozen scooters off the streets at night so that they did not get vandalized. I did this in a quiet, respectful, and organized manner and redeployed them for the public (not at the your house but at their designated hubs in the downtown area) the very next morning. I know that doesn't matter now but it's important that you know the facts as I must defend myself against false accusations such as these. Furthermore I understand you have a lot of stress and pain that you're dealing with write now as surgery is never fun. This is why I had suggested that if I was causing you any additional stress that you simply cancel my reservation and I would not protest, however that was mis-interpreted and I was therefore forced to pay approx $1500 for a place I stayed in for lest than 24 hours... At any rate I am not asking for a response,  I just want you to understand the truth of the matter from my perspective. I've literally stayed/hosted hundreds of AirBnb experiences and never in my life have I had my belonging stuffed into trash bags, crammed into my suitcase and left on wet pavement. It's really odd. It's okay though, just a minor bump on the road of life. No stress. Just please if you host other AirBnb guests in the future and you have an issue with them allow them to gather their own belongings, don't just shove their belongings into trash bags and place it outside. Yes we all deserve respect . . . respect you did not give m (Website hidden by Airbnb) am unwell and in a lot of pain . . . but that did not stop your deceit.

I may not get another booking  . . . for the time you had booked; in which case I am loosing money . . .  that remains to be seen.   

So I suggest you pick up your things and don't cause me any more stress.  If you do that and I am able to get another booking I will consider giving you a partial refund . . .

You just kicked me out with very short notice and then took over $1000 from me through your cancelation. So now it's Christmas eve, I have no place to go, and you've profited over $1000. All I did was charge some scooters, which I then apologised for. Anyways yeah, I won't message again, and I am calling an Uber to bring me there to gather my belongings. All I ask is that you understand what you've done and please really think about it. We are all human beings and deserve to be respected as such. P.S. I've been using AirBnb since it began, have hosted and been a guest at hundreds of AirBnbs and have never had an experience like this. Please just let AirBnb sort this out so I can get my belongings and be on my way. It's Christmas even, please have a bit of empathy. Thank you.

I have been interrupted multiple times in my meeting by this. I understand you are upset, I'm also upset. Please coordinate with Airbnb so everything is documented and recorded. I just got out of another meeting and will organize transport to retrieve my belongings as soon as I can. This was all very unexpected. I am working with AirBnb right now to get the reservation canceled immediately. If I cancel on my mind you get to keep $2000 of my money, which is obviously not fair. Please have some patience while AirBnb works it out with me, and with you. Please. Thank You.

It's really not appropriate to put a guests belongings outside. Passport, credit cards, documents, etc. I'm working on getting the reservation canceled but it's a process with AirBnb

I have reported this to AIRBNB and I am not going to cancel as I will be penalised.  You booked my unit with the full intention of using my power and unit as a business location for your business . . .

Please call me before entering the unit as I have changed the code.  The police are on standby also if you cause any harm to me or my property.

Just something additional to note. My suitcase zipper has jammed, honey has spilled in my back and sensitive contractual documents that I had were exposed. All of my personal belonging were re-arranged items were misplaced, etc. I'm not sure how this situation escalated to the point that this host decided it was appropriate to treat a paying registered guest like this and handle the guest's personal property in this manner but it needs to be something that is seriously looked at. Everything is documented. She first said she was licking my things inside and had changed the code and contacted the police. She then did a 180 and kicked me out placing all my belongings outside in trash bags. I've been a guest/host for many years with AirBnb, I've stayed/hosted hundreds of times, and made/spent thousands of dollars. Very rarely are there any issues and in my entire time of being on AirBnb I have never had my belongings or myself treated in this way. On top of all this, she profited approx $1000 for her actions while I had to spend $60 on an Uber and pay over $200 for a last minute hotel booking at a not so nice hotel down the road. Please take all this into consideration when evaluating this case and the decisions that arise as a result of this. My entire week has been altered because of this incident.

I did not cancel this reservation.
The host canceled it and kept my money after putting all my belongings in boxes and bags and leaving it outside.
I literally had $1000 taken from this lady plus I'm missing cash.
The host is never hosted an Airbnb she took my money and AirBnb rewarded her?
How could AirBnb let this happen?
This is so wrong on so many levels. Seriously. I feel sick and betrayed from this experience.
AirBnb policy is VERY clear. The one who cancels is penalized. I did not cancel. The host canceled. And did so in an abrupt way while I was at a meeting in town.
 
How is she getting rewarded for this?
 
 
On top of that she yelled insults at me as I gathered my belongings of of the wet pavement when I interrupted my day to go back and collect my things...

P.S. To answer your question Helen, I own a dockless e-scooter company, with over 1,000 scooters. By definition it is "dockless", which means they are put at designated places around certain cities and not a single one was kept at the place. It was the night before Christmas eve and the people that are hired to collect them missed a few so I brought them in (12 not 16) for the night, they were sent out again the next day. The "cost" of this in electricity would be approx $4.00 max. I simply didn't want to leave them out after curfew so I went out to get them so they wouldn't be left over night. It is not my "job" to do that. I own the company, it was an emergency.

There is absolutely nothing in the messaging that speaks for religious discrimination.

 

You brought your business to your hosts listings and charged your bikes there without permission.

 

She got upset understandably.

 

You decided to leave and wanted your money back.

 

She accused you of running an illegal business and threatened to report you.

 

she said that she would consider a refund if you stop harrassing her and she got another booking

 

you didn't

 

All the wrong is on your side here I am afraid and there is nothing to substantiate your claim of religious discrimination.

Plus I was not "running an illegal business", it is a legally incorporated company that not only pays taxes but donates to charity.

 

And I did stop "harrassing" her, it was she who messaged me next and I simply replied to her next message.

 

If you still honestly think I was the one that was wrong here then I accept your opinion. No one is always right about anything. I may have been wrong, I am not saying I was right, I am simply seeking clarification. So thank you for letting me know your perspective Helen, it really helps 🙂
