Do not ignore

Dear members of Airbnb Cummunity (guests and hosts),

My suggestion is.

We all, All Over the World need to block our listening or cancel all reservations for 10.12.2019 to remember victims in Orinda and to prevent such incidents in a future. Only this will open eyes of Airbnb owners.

We can do that at least

@Tomaž4  I am very much on board with participating in a group action which addresses the need for responsible change, and I would be willing to block a date, but certainly not cancel a reservation- penalizing and inconveniencing our guests, and incurring cancellation penalties is not the way to do this. I happen to have a week long reservation which the date you suggest is in the middle of, and I wouldn't think of cancelling on my guest- the events in Orinda and Airbnb's lack of safeguards for hosts has nothing to do with my guests.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your replay.

Just do the best you can, it will be a huuuuuge contribution.

Regards

@Tomaž4 Under no circumstances do I recommend cancelling on a guest just to make a point.

The action you're suggesting is a bit like a worker-strike. This can be a powerful form of protest, but it's meaningless without a concrete goal. Let's pretend for a moment that the higher-ups at Airbnb are listening:  what is it that you want them to hear? What is one specific thing that you want them to do to prevent people from being shot to death in properties that are listed on their website?

The proposal of blocking an off-season Tuesday seems a little arbitrary to me. Here's an alternative idea:  every host should disable Instant Book until Airbnb requires verified ID from both parties for all bookings, mandates that they are fully matched to profile data, and grants all hosts the ability to hold a security deposit in-system until all disputes are resolved. These actions would make the platform substantially less appealing to the kind of criminals responsible for the Orinda tragedy, and the methods would put a notable dent in Airbnb's competitiveness while still leaving a path for successful, honest transactions.

There are a lot of concrete ideas here:  https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Hosting/Mass-Shooting-in-Airbnb-house-in-Orinda-last-night-4-dead/m-p/1168744

@Anonymous  Everyone shutting off Instant Book is a brilliant idea, as it directly relates to Airbnb's seemingly non-existent vetting process. It could send a strong message that if the company is not going to take hosts' safety seriously, then hosts need to do it for themselves.

I'm sure some of the hosts who use IB successfully and haven't experienced problems because of it would have some push-back, though. But shutting it off for a specific day or week shouldn't have much of a negative impact on their bookings.

Hi,

I agree, shutting of instant booking is really brilliant idea, for a start. But to do just this would not affect Airbnb enough. The goal need to be shutting down Airbnb as a platform and make an honest alternative. The business model of Airbnb is now  very problematic , because it allowe such of incidents, not just recent Orinda case. The ignorance and incompetence of most Airbnb employees is not just by pure chance.

They only goal is just to make more money and they do not care about security of a hosts at all and their security check is just a joke. I made some legal security checks of my guests and you can be positive that they were not all clean, some already had criminal past.

In a way Airbnb is ideal platform for money laundering and to finance a terrorist activities.

I think that the owners of Airbnb need to be prosecuted.

I already unlist my offer and I will do everything what is in my power to ban Airbnb from my City.

Regards.

this is the best decision.
