Dreadful experience!

Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help? I booked a room in Edinburgh which turned out to be awful. It was much, much further than the host had listed, dirty, cramped and the host verbally abused my colleague. I applied for a refund but, for some reason, Air B and B have found in her favour and now refuse to discuss it.

I have always found Air B and B very helpful and fair but this seems totally unacceptable. Can anyone help please?

Liz on Orit

Orit booked the room for one person without checking the location or disclosing her very exacting requirements. Then subsequently she wanted additional space for two more people. She did not let me know her arrival time which turned out to be very late-after 11pm. Less than 24 hrs after her arrival, she moved out without notice, saying how much I had inconvenienced her and making other sundry unfounded accusations. This is a guest that I never want to see or hear from ever again. Not recommended.

Orit's reply

What a shame you can't be honest Liz. You quite clearly lied about the location of your flat and the amenities. I explicitly asked you about the distance to the city centre and asked, well in advance, if you had another room. You were quite happy to take another booking and I was not at all exacting. The bed you provided is also dreadful and your towels are stained. You were then verbally abusive to my colleague and reduced her to tears. What a dreadful experience. DO NOT STAY WITH LIZ.

Orit on Liz

We had a terrible experience with Liz. She seemed very pleasant online but totally lied about the distance of her house from the city centre. When we arrived we found the room very cramped, the towels were dirty and we had a 50 minute journey to the city centre, instead of 20 as Liz had stated. We then had the stressful job of finding alternative accommodation during festival time with a lot of luggage, a child in tow and trying to work at the same time. The day after I moved out, Liz woke my colleague at 7am, gave her one hour to get out, refused to let her take a shower and reduced her to tears by saying horrible things about me and our company. The whole experience was dreadful.

Liz reply

Orit failed to check my location despite the map on all Airbnb listings. She did not convey her special requirements, having booked for one person and turned up with three including a young child and a supply of theatrical costumes in suitcases the size of a small car. My room is not a theatrical dressing room and was never advertised as such. Her colleague was asked to leave because Orit didn't want to pay for her. Her long experience of theatrical dance shows in the totally fictional review she has provided about my listing and the merry dance she has led me. Claims of a dirty house are absolute lies. My experience was pretty dreadful too, believe me!

I'm not sure how fellow hosts can help you. Did you really bring extra guests with you without telling the host?

Airbnb seemed to have sided with the host, I suppose they mediate things on balance,  maybe you should learn from the experience, let it go and move onwards.

If you are going to the Edinburgh Festival 2017 property is at a premium so get your dancing shoes on and book now.

No of course not, I arranged everything with Liz weeks in advance. Losing £800 for a room we didn't use is hard to move on from!
