Hello all,
I would like to file for my 2015, and I have no idea how to report my AirBnB income in my return. I have not received any forms from AirBnB. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Lubna
@Lubna0 You will not get a 1099K (new this year as Airbnb has changed its reporting method) unless you earned 20K or more AND had 200 or more payouts. You can see your earnings under Transaction History then Earnings Summary. You can also do a search on this forum for taxes and you'll see many questions and answers there.
Hi Clare. I realize I will not get any forms, but then how do I report my earnings? I earned between $8000-9000 from AirBnB in 2015 and not sure what category to report this under. Thanks a lot!
@Lubna0 Ah, that's beyond the scope of what we are able to help you with. You might consider software like Turbo Tax / H &R Block or a tax professional. Here is one link put out by Airbnb that might be of help:
http://assets.airbnb.com/eyguidance/us.pdf
And also, from the Global Hosting Forum:

Hope this helps a bit!
Clare, I had about $250 worth of earnings, and according to your response won't be eligible for a 1099 from AirBnb. Would you happen to know if I have to file this earning for tax purposes and what category would I fall in for requesting tax documents? I am a legal immigrant but not a citizen.
Thanks!
Meg.
@Megha1 I'm certainly not qualified to give tax reporting advice but I did run across this Airbnb help article which might be useful to you:
https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/414/should-i-expect-to-receive-a-tax-form-from-airbnb
Also, Airbnb provided this information for 2015 which I believe is still valid for 2016 income:

You may need to consult with a tax expert for your situation.
Hope this helps!
Hi Lubna, Did you figure out how/where to report the income without the 1099? I am trying to do it now and not sure exactly how, and I'm using Turbo Tax, and it's still not clear. 😕
@Emily38 if you are not sure you probably should call the IRS or a tax professional. Please understand that the others posting in this thread are not being difficult it is just that every situation is different and if you have read the *general* guidance from AirBnB: http://assets.airbnb.com/eyguidance/us.pdf and TurboTax: https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/tax-tips/Self-Employment-Taxes/10-Tax-Tips-for-Airbnb--HomeAwa... and you are still unsure, it probably means that you need individualized expert help.
My Airbnb income is filed on the Schedule E "Supplemental Income and Loss." You will be able to include your gross income and then subtract for any expenses related to your rental (up to the IRS maximum). If you have never done this before, it's best to consult a tax professional or use a tax software such as TurboTax.
