GUEST BROKE MY SHOWER REGISTER KNOB

GUEST BROKE MY SHOWER REGISTER KNOB

HELLO,

THE PROBLEM: Guest broke register knob of the shower, and did not tell me. Instead, the whole family seemed to be using the shower outside the house, in the garden. As I do clean the house every 3 days, as part of my offer deal to them, I also do an inspection and check every thing. They had one dish broken, and busted the register knob of the shower, I found the part they busted on the shower floor and kept it to show them. When they come back from the seashore I will discuss this with them, why did they not tell me they busted the register and the shower stopped running water.

TEMPORARY SOLUTION:

In the meantime, I fixed it so the knob functions properly with a little pull, and warm water still comes out without a problem. I will have to ask the next guests to use it with caution as they shower. I have many more guests coming. The season just started.

SOLVING THE PROBLEM:

It is virtually impossible to find people to repair at this time of the year, is summer here and natives do not work on house repair. However, comes march repairs will start, and I will contact Airbnb to advise me on this because it may cost 400 reais to fix it, which is about 114 US$ dollars.

And is fair that the guest should pay for it.

thank you

@Anna446. Report this to abnb immediately.

@Amy0

Did you see my last posting? it was my mistake. These guests are incredibly neat and clean, they did not break it, I was the idiot who cried wolf for no reason. The house is cleaner and in an absolute order, looks like a church. They are from RGS , german brazilians, very quiet, polite and excessively clean. I guess I was looking for a messy house and disorder somewhere and thought the register was broken because I did not open the register correctly. They said they have been showering normally.

I NEED TO DELETE THIS POST, immediately, because if the guest see I posted this , will be horrendous. Am very embarrassed. NOw, I will only come to forum when I HAVE something really compelling. Thank you Amy, if you know how to delete the entry please let me know. hugs anna

@Anna446.....Oh dear....Now that's the hot Brazilian blood coming out in you Anna!!! Maybe you should get them to 'break' something else around the house...You could have that house of yours running like a German cuckoo clock in no time....haha 🙂

You know I am sure you would write a wonderful book one day Anna, you definitely 'shoot from the hip' and I am just certain you would have a lot of great stories to tell.

Anna, you can ask Lizzie or Kristie, the forum moderators to delete that post but, as it doesn't contravene any standards I don't know how much success you will have.

I did that once, I posted a comment I really regretted, it did hurt someone and you have to be careful when you start typing here. Look at what you are saying from the eyes of the recipient....How would you feel if those comments were directed at you.....are they really fair or is it just emotion coming to the fore!

Same with reviews! When the time comes to write a review make yourself a cup of coffee and look for the good points in the experience and, without making light of the negatives, just be very general and leave it at something like ...'This guest and I have a differing set of values, I wish them well, but would be hesitant to recommend'....or 'We had some nice moments but on balance I consider the guest is more suited to a hotel environment rather than a hosting one'!

Comments like these do not 'pillory' the guest but get the point accross to other hosts! But always keep your cool!!

On another little bit of trivia...It's official! Adelaide (this states capital city) was the hottest capital city on earth for Christmas day! We had a maximum temperature of 41.3c which is 106.4 in the old fahrenheit scale....It looks like some of that hot blood of yours @Anna446 has made its way to this part of the world!

Have a great new year possum......cheers.....Rob

@Rob0

Well, it is actually the italian in me. Usually brazilians are easy going, they don't sweat the small stuff the way I do. It is that german/italian combo, is actually deadly. Just as IRISH/italian, is deadly. I had an American boyfriend once, a lawyer, he was italian and irish, deadly combo, he would get very close to tossing me out the window, but never did it . You mentioned a book, you have no idea how many people tell me this, and I cringe. I would get sued if I put in print every thing that went on in my life.

Well, I don't see why the Airbnb Admin. would not delete a mistaken comment. There is an option that says to flag comments that are inappropriate. Specially since the comment may jeopardize a relationship between good host and good guest. I'd like to think I am a good host, I did post a correction immediately. This would promote good vibes between the hosts and guests.

I will take your advice and grab my ciggie and coffee with lots of cream and sugar, to make my mouth puker shut, so my fingers don't jump on the wrong letters. And I safe guarded your comments. The only thing that would bother me from a guest is if they damage, or destroy my property and do heavy drugs. Everyone smokes pot in this beach town, just as in Montreal where I lived. They used to deliver it to the hotel, you picked and ordered your marijuana from the internet and they delivered at the hotel. I was quite shocked.  That thing does not work on me. I am already high without it. So before I hit another panic button, I will take your sound advice.

But it would be appropriate of Airbnb to delete that comment so if the guest wants to come back to my shack, he can do it without any bad blood between us.   It is just good policy.  I am pretty sure guests read all the crap we write about them.

The people are pretty nice here in Brazil, we are five houses all are rented right now to brazilians and no problems whatsoever. The only problem I see is that they are into children, and the children scream. Is a family oriented country much to my despair. ;-( One "demo" last year kicked a soccer ball through my front window, the daddy left without paying for it, and an argentinian little "demo" pinched with his nails my jade plant, it had nail marks all over it. If I had seen him doing this, he would have my nail marks all over him. The other demo across the street, dumped on the daily basis-- garbage on my garden instead of taking it to the dumpster, he would take a short cut to my yard.  I grabbed the "demo"by the arm and said --you do this again and I toss you in the amazonic jungle to the wild wolves, and if you tell anyone, I toss you NOW.  He now takes it to the dumpster.  The mother came and appologised. Kids are a problem here, they own the country, is a country child-oriented, the opposite of the USA, where there is order.

@Rob0, you and your wife look very smart in this red outfit in the picture of airbnb. Is a lovely photo, very potent and chic.   I wish you a great NEW YEAR to come. I wish every one at Airbnb the same and also the staff of Airbnb, for doing this work to bring us all together.

Please pray for Brasil and he USA, as these both countries will need lots of prayers this coming year, a cascade of events will take place in both countries. Both have new PRESIDENTS. Let's all pray and hope for peace on earth and a healthy earth without global warming accelerating as it is. The planet cries and asks for help in all fronts! LEST this expected asteroid will come and destroy us for good! ;-)'till 2017 mates!

@Anna446....so funny Anna, but I think this bit of Aussie humour absolutely sums it up!

Most people around the world will recognise this device and what it does!!!!

@Ro6b

I LIKE THE BUTTON PUSHED BY D.TRUMP....so you guys over there seem to be having a laugh at all of it. Here in BR the people love Trump, and want him to come and put LULA and Dilma in jail. I kid you not, is fair to estimate that 50% loves Trump down here.

Hi Anna,

Of course they should pay for this damage. I have found that guests do not tell thier host when they damage the property. And if you request that they ...you have a fight to deal with.

@Ivette0, except that I am an IMBECILE. They did not brake it. The darn thing is working better than ever, they actually have been showering normally. I am a nervous host, and accidentally I opened the register the wrong way and panicked like a baffon when sees a snake.

I NEED TO DELETE THE POST...immediately. My guests are german-brazilians, exceptionally clean, orderly and polite. The house is cleaner than when I live in it. They are so clean that I hardly had to clean much, they polished everything in the house. I feel like an idiot.

If anyone can help me delete the post, I would be mostly appreciative, as this is an embarrassment. LESSON LEARNED HERE--never contact the airbnb unless is really urgent or a real troubled situation arrises. I appologise to every one here in the forum and AIRBNB, as this is a fantastic guest they sent me.   Thank you Ivette, if you can help me delete this posting, would be my Xmas gift.

many hugs

anna

@Anna446. They arent reading this forum. Just write them a great review.

@Amy0

YES, i will do this exactly, a great review, but still I don't see why Airbnb would not grant my request for them to delete my post.There will be times when people post incorrectly. So it makes sense that if you post a mistake, you request it to be removed, for the sake of good terms amongst all members.  But it seems it may be written in stone. Thank you kindly Amy, you are a great gal for taking the time to write me. Happy new year to you!anna

@Anna446  The forum moderators did remove my hurtful post at my request so it is possible Anna. Lizzie was very tactful the way she did it, she just removed the offending sentence without affecting the rest of the post or the thread!

But as @Amy38 has said, this forum has nothing to do with the guest you have criticized so the chance of them seeing this is very small as it is buried pages down in a completely different named thread! The only way they would ever see it is if you actually directed them to it, or they happened to be 'on the ball' enough to access your recent posts through your community profile!

The other way you can approach this is to be your usual 'up-front' self and go to them and say..."I made a really stupid comment on a blog about you guys. It says way more about me than it says about you. But that's just the way we Italian/Brazilians are, and if you do ever come across it, you will see how I tried to wind back the clock......and do me a favour, have a laugh along with me at it"!

Problem disappears Anna, you have told them of it.

But the review....give em a good one! That's the important part because that stays, not only with you, but with them on their profile.

As I have said before I place far more importance on how a host handles their reviews than on how their listing looks. I want to know that the host is a communicative, caring and thoughtful host, rather than a raging bull looking for a red cape!

Cheers.....Rob

@Rob0

I think that telling them would put a dent in it. They may let it go but human nature is very unpredictable, and it's based on this unpredictability that I think deleting the post is more common sense. No need to pick on the scab of a wound, is best to do away with the problem. I do feel that they could come across the post, and I am a firm believer of Murphy's law. So cutting the problem at its root is best. I would certainly sleep better. As Richard Burton put it so eloquently in WHO IS AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF....is better, best, bested, to delete the post..LOL.

SO PLEASE ADMIN. LIZZIE ET ALL...@AIRBNB , delete my post. Lest it causes me problems and I have to go hide somewhere because I screwed up with his first guest and won't be able to book anymore..lol...nor stay here, then I sell the cabin and move to Alaska and hibernate from humanity at large...LOL 😉 , after this posting, am no longer asking it again. Let destine takes its course, I did my part, or best said ..over did it!  It's all in a day's hosting, or roasting! hugs. anna
