Got charged in the wrong currency

Hi,

I booked two airbnbs last week and got charged twice in Swedish Crowns on my German Credit Card which resulted in an extra fee of 6€ even though every setting I could find was marked with Euro.

Could somebody please help me.

Best.

Patrick

ABB is taking currency conversion fee (arround 3%) for all payments if the guests credit card and the host are not in USA. It is unevitable.

You see all prices in Euro bc you set it this way. You can set all prices in any currency by selecting language and currency in your search.

Hi,

the fee I had to pay was from my credit card. Everytime I pay in a different currency they charge me.
But the actual problem is that I start looking for apartments and even within the checkout process all prices are displayed in Euros but then I get charged in Swedish Crown, which resulty in me having to pay an extra fee from my american express card.
This shouldn't be the case if I am booking an apartment in Germany from Germany, with a German credit card and all prices displayed also in Euro.

Best.

@Patrick306

If you booked a property in Sweden, you will be charged in the local currency - which is SEK.

@Marit-Anne0 I didn't book a property in Sweden, as I wrote in my last sentence:
"This shouldn't be the case if I am booking an apartment in Germany from Germany, with a German credit card and all prices displayed also in Euro."

Is there a way to contact airbnb directly for this matter?

Thanks
Patrick

@Patrick306

Sounds like a system glitch.

I understand your frustration.  I am a Canadian and I have always booked in Canadian dollars.  I found a new place we wanted to stay on our cross Canada trip, I booked it and somehow my account had been changed to USD.  I did not do this.  I had booked two out places for this summer on my account and both times charged in CAD.  I do not understand why my account is now listed in USD and now I was charge in USD.  Something has happened with Airbnb's files that has changed the account preferences.

Secondly, whatever currency our account is set to list prices in, the currency type should be listed on each bill before the expenses are processed so we know what currency we will be charged in. This would avoid unnecessary charges for making currency exchanges.

The HELP people are no help at all.  Very frustrating.

This has just happened to me - I have booked three air bnb’s in the last two months. First one went through as NZD, second one went through as USD but did not state it at time of processing payment, only saw it when I checked my credit card statement. Third one then went back to using NZD. Help desk first tried to say it was because I had not changed my currency settings to New Zealand but then when I pointed out all my prior bookings and most recent booking was processed in NZD they decide to investigate. Pretty frustrating as our stay cost $1200 instead of $758. I’m sure AirBnB could state currencies more clearly so as not to catch people out

This exact same thing happened to us - we were using my profile via airbnb and had a whole history of  booking with NZD.  We also only saw it on our credit card bill.  Have you had any success with airbnb getting a refund on this?

I am in Canada and booked a property last your for this March. I have a USD credit card to avoid any conversion fees. But I realized that the first payment was charged in CAD to my USD credit card, with the result due to conversion fees I am paying more than the original price. My default settings are USD. I called Airbnb and was told that I must have displayed the price in CAD when I booked the apartment. Well, so I asked if I could change the currency back to USD for the second payment coming up at the end of this month. No, I was told, that wouldn't be possible. I find this currency issue very confusing. Even if your payment details are displayed in CAD, when you click to enter your credit card details or add a another one, the original price is displayed in USD again which is misleading because one gets the impression that credit card will be charged in USD (and no other currency).

This has just happened to me! I live in Ireland and just booked Airbnb in Ireland but my account changed to USD and as a result I got charged €12 extra in conversion costs. Not happy.

It has been interesting to read of the issue of incorrect currency being charged.
