Guest Reviews

We recently had a long trip to Spain and France and used AirBnb properties.  Three of the Hosts did not leave us a review.  We left reviews for all of the properties in question.  All the properties we reviewed as great,  4 - 5 Star, we had no issues and nor did they have issues with us.  We are Superhosts and feel that these Hosts are not fulfilling their job by not completing the final step of the process.  This is a review based business we all belong to, no reviews....no business.

Are Hosts penalised for not reviewing guests?  Personally I think it is unfair when either Host or Guest takes the time and effort to write a review then either Host or Guest doesn't and the written review is posted.  If one party doesn't write a review then the corresponding review shouldn't be posted.

I might add one Host messaged to say "you are the perfect travelers, I will leave a 5* comment on our profile.  Feel free to do the same if you enjoyed your stay.  It will be very useful for me and next travelers."  He left no review.  We didn't confirm by text to his comment.

I've searched for info on this subject but couldn't be enlightened.

@Greg-and-Vicki0  It's a shame that some people just can't be bothered. I've always reviewed all my guests and almost all have left a review for me.

There is no penalty for hosts not leaving reviews- instead, we're rated by Airbnb on the % of reviews we RECEIVE from guests, as if we have control over that. It makes no sense at all.

I do think that reviews are important on a booking site, but hosts should be rated on the % of reviews they leave for guests, and vice-versa, which there has been much talk about on this forum, but no action from Airbnb.

Sarah thank you for the response.  It's nice to understand the system and have your comments.  I agree wholeheartedly the system needs to be changed.

@Greg-and-Vicki0   If it were me, I'd message that host who asked you to leave a review and said they'd leave you a 5* one and say you're curious and bewildered as to why they didn't leave you a review after all. Maybe they got too busy (altho I don't think that's very good excuse, it only takes a few minutes), maybe it totally slipped their mind, maybe they had some serious family emergency where everything else took a backseat. It would just be interesting to know their response, if any.

@Greg-and-Vicki0 I do agree that hosts should always leave a review for their guests as it is vital for future hosts.  When I first started hosting 4 years ago I did "forget" to leave a review for a couple  of sets of guests, both of whom were rude and demanding, but that was then and I have learned a lot since and would now give an honest review - warts and all.  It sounds like you had a rough time at one of the places you stayed at - did you really give him 4 or 5 stars?

Hi Rachel

We actually enjoyed our stay.  The host was quite a young chap, working nights along with being a Host. His place was as expected, very clean and comfortable, it was the apartment block entrance and internal staircase that came as a shock it very was dark and shabby. He was pleasant and punctual on meeting us so his text message came as a bit of a surprise.  I don't believe Hosts have any excuse in not reviewing, with a two week window and constant reminders into the inbox its just down right slack and it should be measured and reflected in the stats.
