Guest cancels but sends a package

Hi,

We had a guest from another county cancel a 16 night stay due to personal reasons 10 days prior to his stay. He now messaged me and asked if his friend can pick up a package that he had shipped to my home before he canceled his trip. I haven't replied back as I am uncomfortable with this, for all I know it could be illegal items. Should I tell him, we do not except mail for other people? Our mailbox states our last name and we may not even recieve the package. Should I call the post office or non emergancy police to flag the package?

Hi,

The guest did not announce the sending of the package or asked you permission for it.  You can refuse delivery of the package at your house. It probably will stay at the post office or collection point,  the friend can pick it up from there, i some way authorized by the sender. Best regards, Emiel

I agree it would be best to refuse delivery.

That is so sketchy. Definitely refuse the package. If they put it in your mailbox anyways, mark Return to Sender and hand it in at the post office.
