Guest never arrived, now looking for gratuity

A guest failed to turn up to a reservation, contacted me 7 hours after his check in time, to say he'd missed his flight.  As per cancellation policy, he wasn't refunded.  

He has now contacted me (6 weeks later) to ask to come for a week for free, given he failed to turn up last time, and I was still paid.  I have refused this, however now feel quite guilty, as I did get money for nothing.  But on the flip side, it wasn't my fault, so why should I be out of pocket??  

Any advice would be appreciated

@Dawn47 If you feel guilty, perhaps a little soul seraching is in order. If you were him, what would you think was fair. Did he cancel the original booking, pay the penilty and were you able to rebook some of the days? What is your occupancy rate? If he had not booked would you have likely been able to rent to someone else? If he did not stay, but cancelled he would have gotten at least the cleaning fee back, so perhaps offering him a discount on the re-booking as a unrequired courtesy would be in order.

Happened to me once, my cheapest room and for one night so not a biggie. I had to make contact to find out what was going on.

 

Contacted a few months later and must have caught me in a good mood and the room was available so I said yes. Also no showed...

 

No it is not a credit to be used whenever you want.

You still had to prepare the place.

 

So perhaps offer him a discount on a future stay, if your place is available for when he wants to rebook, less the first night and any prepation/cleaning fees?
