May I ask why you haven't contacted Airbnb to report this? If the host did indeed write this, (SAVE THAT MESSAGE FOR AIRBNB)
then they are completely 100% responsible for going into the booking to cancel the booking. They may or may not be trying to avoid paying the $50 penalty fee since that's what will happen if any hosts does cancel on a guests. And if you didn't stay there, then the hosts should not get paid, even if the booking is NOT cancelled. Please contact Airbnb immediately as this is one of those urgent situations that needs their attention. Since you are a host too, please keep in mind that this is not acceptable to have a host cancel on you the day you arrive and not get Airbnb involved. Do you know how to contact them via the TOLL FREE number? Here's the number in case you dont' have it....and its free on any cell phone or pay phone....
