Heading to Japan and want to prep my passport

I'll be staying at several different hotels and AirBnBs as part of my upcoming vacation. I realize that at each the host will need to copy my passport and take down my name, address, nationality and occupation. I'd like to prep this information ahead of time, so I have a copy ready and that is less they need to do. Will they accept a copy that I make myself? If so, which portion of my passport needs to be copied? I assume just the page with my picture and information.

As a host I always ask for a passport (and not a copy)
What interests me purely for tax purposes is the name, surname, passport number and address.
