Host asking for extra money to accept request

Hi

When I sent a stay request, host tried to negotiate behind this site's back and asked me to pay the amount in cash and cancel the reservation so as to save on commissions. When I refused, he canceled the my stay request. How do I report such fraudulent hosts? He and his son really wasted my time in badgering me to pay cash on the side to accept request.

Hi @Archit6  🙂

In the message feed between you and your host you will see a "report user" link.

It is against airbnb rules to pay outside the system and the host should definitely be punished and/or removed from the site. I'm sorry you had to have this experience 🙂

Best, Sandra

Thanks Sandra, reported him.

I'm having a similar issue with a recent booking. Paid for 2 nights, host accepted the request, sends a follow up message 20 days after booking that there is a 40 € cleaning fee that needs to be paid cash on arrival to the lady that has the keys (it is listed in his description, I must have missed it when I booked). I told him that that's against the terms of service, so now he sends a change of reservation to show I owe the extra 40. Kind of deceptive to list your place at one price and not include the cleaning fee in the booking. His cancellation policy is strict, only 50% back 48 hours after booking. Do I suck it up and pay, or report?

@Erin404 The cleaning fee should and must be included in the price. If you don't want to stay contact airbnb and they can cancel the reservation. They can read your communication with the host in the airbnb message feed. You can find a link to contact airbnb in the reservation you made.

Best, Sandra
