Hello
We're traveling to Spain and the host of the listing in Valencia where we'll be staying sent this message:
"Hi.just to let you know we now need to see your id card or passport when checking in as hotels do, and scan for the authorities so they know where eveybody is etc."
Is this a normal practice? I'm a host in Puerto Rico and we don't require guests to show any id at check in.
Thanks
Rafael

@Rafael630 yes it is in many countries. You can google the local laws but many of us need to report every guest to the police for a temporary place of stay. If we fail to do so the fines are enormous.

This is very common in Spain as required by law.
@Rafael630 Yup. This is the law in Spain so your host is carefully following the local regulations. Enjoy your trip!
