Host looking for a refund of a damage we did not commit

Hello Community,

I am a host but also a traveler. We have a very annoying issue: we stayed 3  nights in a room in a flat looking like a hostel, the so called host was never met and only reachable per sms. We found in the flat several wear and tear damages in the bathrooms windows and we noticed last night a crack in our room window, crack that we did not cause! We took pictures and notified the "host" which thanked us for it and excusing herself for the inconvenience. Subsequently she sent us a request of payment of 300$ as a start because she writes it could be more after she speaks with the handyman! How can guests be protected by unjust claims?does anybody have any xperience? We wrote to the service center and we are waiting. Thanks a lot!

Sounds like when you sent the picture the host assumed you did it?

If the conversation was within the Airbnb system let Airbnb arbitrate. You should be fine.
