Hosting a long term reservation

I have a gentleman who will rent from us for 9 months starting June 4. (He is a visiting professor and we are happy to have him). When he tried to book for 9 months, he was asked to put forth a huge sum of money (thousands), so I told him to book for the month of June 4 - July 4, which he did; however, I'm concerned about the rest of the calendar. Do I block the remaining months and unblock so he can reserve one month at a time? This seems like a silly way to do it. Is there a simplier way?

@Melissa717

Long term stays are always charged/paid in monthly installments, so i do not understand why your guest is charged for much more at start of booking. Also it will have the "long term stay" cancellation policy on it.

I personally would not host somebody for such long period, i would change such a guest after a while (i do 10 weeks maximum) to a normal renting contract due to legal reasons. For more info type "long term stay" as keywords in the Airbnb HELP feature,

Best regards,
