Hosting friends while hosting a guest

I have just opened my home to hosting. I would like to ask your opinion... i just received an enquiry to host a guest, but i also have a dinner party that i am hosting on one of the late afternoon/ evenings that my guest would be arriving.... what i have done is told my guest that this is what will be happening, and will he be disturbed by noise etc.

is this unprofessional ? should i rather block book all the days when i know we will have some social time with friends?

I think you did the right thing.  He is now free to accept or go elsewhere.  Make sure he does not expect to join the party.

Oh do ask him to join you.  We had exactly that situation and in  even more difficult because we were not staying in the house at the time.  So we asked our guests if they would mind if we cooked a meal and of course included them. It was a great success . We all had a very good meal together and shared a very pleasant evening, and got to know our guests a lot better.

I would not recommend it in every situation and probably best to block those dates in the future .
