Hot tub

I have ticked "hot tub" in my listings. Is this different from a "bathtub"?

Hi @John2420, @Jeff158,

This is indeed a very interesting question! As we do struggle a little bit with this, from time to time as well!

Here is our problem:

We do have a bathtub with hydro-massage in our bathroom (the bathtub is a regular size bathtub, so essentially: single-person).

When we go through our amenity list (In Dutch), the hot tub amenity is actually called: Jacuzzi, on the Airbnb listing admin page.

Wikipedia (In English) informs us of the following:

  • Jacuzzi is a company producing whirlpool bathtubs and spas. The term 'Jacuzzi' is often used generically to refer to any bathtub with underwater massage jets.
  • Jacuzzi may also refer to: Hot tub

However most people will think a hot tub at least stands for (even Wikipedia seems to suggest this):

  • Outside
  • Multi-person

In other words, in Dutch, it seems to be correct for us to tick the option.

But we seem to be wrong, in English!

For now, we’ve ticked the option. And in the associated text with the pictures of our bathroom,

we explain the situation.

It hardly ever raises issues, and we only had 2 requests in 4 years. Where enquiring guests were asking specific questions on the subject.

When people are asking, we always respond, technically it may be considered to be a 'Jacuzzi'. But most people would not consider this to be a hot tub (it’s all about definitions).

Maybe I should consider adding another rule to our house-rules: “You acknowledge understanding: Our hot tub is an inside single person sized hydro-massage bathtub”.

Just to avoid that single instance, where guests do book us – especially based on this amenity. And to find out, it is ‘just’ a bathtub with hydro-massage. When they arrive. Not a good experience for the review.

You just won’t believe what some people think is normal!

Our Condominium shared adult outside swimming pool is about 125 cubic meters.

And enquiring guests ask questions, such as:

  • Is it heated?
  • Is it private?

It is all described in the listing text.

Just a little bit @John2420

Bathtubs tend to be inside, in the bathroom, guests get washed in a bathtub

Hot tubs are found outside in gardens or on decking etc, guests get drunk and act daft in a hot tub.

Hi @John2420 🙂

It is very different. If you have normal bathtubs in your bathrooms it is not at all the same as a hot tub.

A hot tub is a tub like this on the picture with bubbles.

If you only have normal bath tubs make sure to un-tic the boxes as soon as possible as your guestshottub.jpeg will expect a real hot tub.
