Hotel tax

I am a host in Marietta Ohio. We have enjoyed hosting for approximately 2-1/2 years. Our town has recently (January) started requiring the collection of hotel tax for Air BnB listings.  I have read previous threads in the Community Center.  I have also talked with  "Support".  The solutions offered (collect from guests after their arrival - no, thank you!) and upping my rate and contacting "Resolution" for a refund after each  guest.  (Seems rather combersome.)  At one time there was a line where a percentage could be entered for the tax.  Of course, I'm just a small host and Air BnB seems to be moving on to bigger and better things, so a resolution to my issue seems unlikely.  This issue is making me re-think being a host for Air BnB. I may check out hosting on another platform.

@Linda1411 the first thing to do, if you haven't already, is to find out whether Airbnb is going to collect and remit the tax for you. In some localities it does and in others it does not. Where it does not, it's a real nuisance with no good solution. (I don't remember any time where Airbnb allowed hosts to specify the tax as a line item.)

Air BnB does not collect and remit for my area. Thank you.

I am so disappointed that Airbnb has chosen to roll over on the establishment of hotel taxes for our units.  We are NOT hotels by any definition!

Airbnb could at the very least help us unite to fight new ordinances in our local communities! I live in a medium sized town.  The public hearing on redefining airbnbs as hotels is on May 7th

Why is Airbnb not sending letters to every host in Columba encouraging them to go to the meeting and speak against classifying my extra room as a hotel.  It’s like saying a rummage sale as a retail store.

...or at the very least, Airbnb should  give me the tools to do it myself. I intend to call corporate tomorrow and ask for these things. I will come back here to tell you how my request was received.
