Hi all UK hosts, my household insurance is up for renewal and I wondered whether anyone can recommend an insurance company who doesn’t demand high excesses for any claim. I probably only let my house for two months of the year.......it’s not a permanent Airbnb letting property and I’m looking for something fair for when it’s just my fault I need to claim!
many thanks

Can't you search this on comparison sites, they will let you set the excess you're prepared to accept.
Not much help as ours is smallholder insurance.

Hello @Lyn30
You need specialist home insurance for short term lets. Standard home insurance won't cover you.
I use Admiral but I think there are about 10 providers offering this.
@Mike-And-Helen0 I don't believe they come up in insurance comparison sites as it is specialist insurance.
if you Google home insurance for short term lets UK then a list will come up @Lyn30
Late to this discussion, but today I took out home insurance with 'Home Protect'.
- I went to a comparison website, & Home Protect came out the cheapest, before mentioning Airbnb (tho I had ticked the 'business use' box.) I rang Home Protect, & told them I had 2 lodgers and/or Airbnb - in my own home. As a result the premium went up by £13 - £14, which I thought was more than reasonable! - No accidental damage cover tho'. And I'm allowed up to 5 guests at a time too!
Anyone had a problem with getting a household insurance claim paid when the insurance company (Hastings Direct) found out that we had an airbnb lodge in our garden.
If you only have standard home insurance then absolutely a claim would be denied as you should have home insurance for short term lets. @Paul8326
@Paul8326 if the claim is nothing to do with the lodge in the garden and said lodge is not covered by the house insurance you have a small hope of convincing Hastings that is irrelevant. We insure our semi-detached house separately to our semi-detached holiday apartments so the two should not affect each other in the event of a claim.
