How does strict cancellation policy apply to shortening a 2-week trip?

So the scenario is: I have a two week stay booked, host uses strict cancellation policy which specifies give notice 1 week before check-in for a 50% discount. Before the end of the first week I realised I'd need to cut my stay short. So, I requested to alter the viewing by a couple days (such that I pay full price for the following 1 week from the current day), hoping to get 50% refund for the last couple days. However, the host denied outright.

I figure this would be in both our benefit- I get a little cash back, and the host can get someone else in on those two days as well as keeping my 50%, making 150% revenue (it's a busy, popular location). Admittedly, however, the strict policy does refer explicitly to one week before check-in, rather than check-out, so perhaps because I've checked in already I have no remit? Any thoughts?

Thanks

Cancellations are handled by Air BNB according to the host policy and not by the host directly, @Mattsi0.  Therefore it sounds like your calculations are correct and you will get a small refund.

As you have already checked-in you can no longer qualify for a refund via the strict cancellation route.

Amending the checkout date, remember this does differ from a cancellation.

If the host had agreed to your request for amending the dates, you would have received a refund for the nights not used as the host is clearing these dates for you. Although sometimes there are weekly discounts that are no longer applicable to factor in with refunds

The host probably thinks you are avoiding cancellation as you wish to cut short the days originally booked,as it is one way a guest can 'play' the system.

Perhaps if you did cancel the days not used, you can ask the host for some recompense if the host is able fill these days.

Thanks for the replies, sounds like I should try cancelling rather than amending. Just to be clear: I can cancel from a certain date in the future, ie say "I am checking out early", right? Wouldn't want to unintentionally cancel my whole remaining stay.
