How to recognize a bad guest at a first glance ( part 2.)

They are late and of course unreachable.

You call, you text, you call again...

Crickets.

You wait.

You call the bus station and find out their bus arrived almost an hour ago ( Bus station is 10 min by taxi or 25 min walk away)

Maybe they missed the bus? God knows! The next bus arrives 6 hours later.

You have cleaned for hours. You are hungry. You are tired. It's hot and you are sweating.

You have other work to do and you have to leave.

They finally arrive and suddenly they are able to text and call 10 times in 5 min.

You call your mum for help.

She leaves the lunch on the stove and jumps in the car.

She needs some time to arrive from the other part of the city.

They are waiting on the street (despite 3 cafe bars within 30 m radius) and they are angry.

Their attention is needed for the lock and keys instruction but they are busy talking to the phone.

They come in and immediately ask for WIfI password and the washing machine .

They immediately turn on all the lights. All 15 of them! Your mum grabs her sunglasses.

They discover 2 lights are not working ( in the room with 8 more lights) and want an electrician to come and fix it tomorrow because they can't be (I quote) IN THE DARKNESS 😄

You find and schedule an electrician for tomorrow and let the guests know (through ABB and WhatsApp)

No answer .Of course.

They will leave in 2 days.

You can't wait 😄

@Branka-and-Silvia0  Sometimes venting helps. I enjoy reading your post as you can make me see the humor in any situation. lol

@Branka-and-Silvia0   I think this best part of this business is "short term"!  Why hosts think having a guest stay long term is a good thing I don't know.

@Branka-and-Silvia0 Your writing is a true reflection of a couple of bad guests I had before.

i guess that your story has not ended yet. Two days later you got a 3 star rating for bad checkin, lights not working, and lock not functional well 😞

@Branka-and-Silvia0  Mum is the star of the show here! [Why don't I get these guests, and man I am glad that I don't.]

...

They send a message saying they changed their minds and will still manage 2 days without an electrician.

You look at the calendar and there are 3 holidays and the weekend approaches. It is impossible to reschedule the electrician within the next 7 days.

You have back to back bookings.

You have to be firm - he will come today and fix it.

You know a bad review is inevitable 😄

@Branka-and-Silvia0

You're between a rock and a hard place 😞

We empathise with you.

Maybe plan a treat for yourselves after this is over.

@Branka-and-Silvia0

Maybe not...

Maybe they will appreciate the fact that you acted on their need for more light and arranged a electrician to come and supply more light for their comfort and enjoyment! ;-D

Good on you, I look up to your hosting style please never change and keep posting!

@Lyn3

hehe, a small glass of cold beer is the best treat 😄 I am just laughing...

First, we had some damage done by guests in Airbnb last week. Then we had a thunderstorm a few days ago and the lightning burned my 2 tv-s and the router at my home +  the satellite cable in the whole building ( I am the building manager) + this one fuse in the Airbnb + my refrigerator at home stopped cooling and it's 35 C outside + I am managing the complete renovation of 2 other flats for months now.... I wonder what's next 😄 I am socializing with repairmen more than with myself...

One day I will snap like popcorn and evacuate on a deserted island. Just a few sheeps, birds and me, a shack made of stone and leaves, fish for lunch and water from a creek. I am tired of civilization 😛

@Branka-and-Silvia0

Oh gosh....the Universe is dealing you all these challenges, one after the other, one after the other...but when all of these tasks have been completed and you come out on top - as you will - you will breathe a huge sigh of relief and look back with satisfaction and gratitude for the lessons 🙂 And you will say, "Ha! I did it!"

That deserted island sure sounds great!  Your next holiday!

All the best 🙂

@Lyn3  when I come out on the top then the universe will add another rock on it aaaaa..... that deserted island has to be flat, without any mountains 😄 😄

You sound just like my partner, who has become a complete minimalist. Yet, somehow, he always manages to take care of all of our properties. Hang in there...sounds like an exasperating tear-your-hair-out period of both running and managing businesses, and now bad guests to top it off. When you finish your biggest projects, it may be time to consider either downsizing or delegating -- for your own sanity and well being.

@Branka-and-Silvia0, don’t you think that you already have sheeps? Unfortunately in the flat, not in the remote and not connected island.

Great that they stay not long!
