I hosted buddhist monks that set a fire in my yard 5K damage

I hosted Buddhist monks and they did a smoke rituals every night in my back yard (I didn't know this until I saw all the evidence and they admitted doing so).  They accidentally left something smoldering after one of these rituals and the fire dept had to come to put out the fire.  I have $5413.00 worth of damage to my yard and patio (trees, bushes, patio umbrella, melted garbage can).  I had a no smoking in the house, yard, patio, deck anywhere on the property, but never thought about smoke rituals I guess.  I have lots of photos of all the residue from the rituals.  They also broke my house rules by having many people over every day.  I had them removed by airbnb for having events and parties. I had even emailed at the time of reservation to be clear with the guest, a woman from China about how many people were staying and that no parties or events were allowed, she responded with inaccurate information - stating 2 people were staying in the house (at times there were 4-6) and that only one person would visit for a business meeting and that they would be gone at a nearby convention (untrue they were almost always there).  They left my home a disaster with food and dirt everywhere.  used matches and incense throughout the backyard.  I have two ring cameras.

Can anyone comment on making a claim for the damages?  I've never done anything like this before.  I have 'caution' tape across all the burned areas but my next guests will be impacted.  Should I make a claim with Airbnb with photos and estimates and receipts and then start repairing it?  Will they send out an adjuster?  I want to follow protocol.  Anyone been through a claim like this before?

Be sure to file your claim before new guests show up. You would go to airbnb.com/resolutions

Take a lot of pictures if you haven't already. If you have something that shows proof of the value of the damage, upload it as well. It will start by asking the guests for the money, but I doubt they will agree to it, and in 72 hours, you can ask Airbnb to intervene. This is how you would get the host guarantee as long as you have the documentation and follow the requirements of the program.

@Katherine461   Wow, what a crazy story!

Yes, pictures, any documentation on the airbnb platform of what they told you, what they admitted, if you by any chance have recent 'before' photos [we take video of our unit before every guest just in case], and whatever receipts and cost estimates for repair.

Oh wow, this is terrifying and I am so sorry for the damage and stress this has caused you. If you do not have a short term vacation rental insurance policy on your home  I strongly suggest getting an additional insurance policy that covers you under vacation rentals as your regular home owners insurance nor a landlord insurance would not cover this if it was obviously caused by short term renting. I don't have a ton of faith depending on Airbnb to help you collect a claim like this from guests as they are just mostly a booking platform and I have never heard of them doing an amazing job insuring you for situations like this. A good "vacation rental" insurance policy would have a $500-$1000 deductible and  cover all the rest of the damage you mentioned  as well as pay you for any lost reservations and income to get everything repaired. Not to mention that if a guest gets injured or try to sue you.

I hope you get everything resolved and wish you well.

Thanks to everyone for their help and well wishes.  I hope no one has to go through this.  I could have lost my entire home if the fire dept didn't respond as fast as they did.

OMG @Katherine461  who would tell that Buddhist monks will be so dangerous

Start with send or receive money from the guest, including all pictures and receipts from damaged items (or link to the same items online) and estimates/bills for the repair/replace costs

If they decline to pay or ignores you than  involve Airbnb

Do the first step before your next guests arrive
