@Bill-And-Terrie0 Yes. Airbnb's website is secure and, yes, most if not all hosts provide their tax Id number. For those hosts who do not, Airbnb witholds a percentage, I believe 28%.
Regarding the security of your account on Airbnb: It is extremely important that you guard your email address and password as you would the keys to your home. Never, ever, publicly disclose this information or respond to phishing messages.
What are phishing messagges? Several hosts (and guests, too) have been reporting that they have received inquiries that say the host's listing has appeared on another website for a lesser nightly fee. Out of curiosity, hosts have gone to that website where, of course, the host is asked to login in with their email address and password. At that point, the host has just given out the keys to their account. Or, a host might receive an inquiry message telling them they can sign up to a premium subscription to imporve their search ranking. Who wouldn't want that, right? Again, it's an attempt by scammers to get the host's account information. Here's what it looks like:

Looks legitimate, right? Wrong. It's a scam. Scammers are very sophisticated in mimicking Airbnb's logo, page and wording style making users believe that the message is in fact from Airbnb.

I don't mean to scare you, just to advise you to be vigilant with your account information. To my knowledge, the Airbnb website itself has never been hacked. Problems have only arisen when users give away their account information.
Sorry to be so long-winded. Please ask more questions if you have them.
