I'm cancelling a reservation because I ultimately do not feel completely safe about my host. Being my first use of AirBnB I neglected to do a full review of their profile before reserving. Afterwards I did and found concerns regarding the abscence of their face on their profile picture (an AIrBNB policy as I understand it, at least for guests), a profile telephone number in another country, no confirmed ID having been submitted and a new posting without any reviews. Now that I'm cancelling I am wondering if the reason I give to AirBnB will be shared with the host.
@Veronica582 no it isn't, but even if it is, it doesn't change anything for you. Bit you could communicate with the host, he might be new and isn't aware of everything yet, as many guests are. In that case we send them a message, if they reassure us that everything is in order and fill in their profile we continue with the reservation, if not we cancel. Did you raise your concerns with the host?
Hi, Ana. Thanks. Not really, I didn´t want to seem pesky. But it would seem that AirBnB should have the same ID policies with hosts as it has with guests.
@Veronica582 it has but many guests don't upload ID too. You should always communicate. Also, all of these things exept the phone are visible before booking, you just have to read every listing more carefully. Many guests miss very important info about the properties because they don't read the details and house rules. I understand that this is the first time for you but you can have only 3 cancelations oer year if you want your service fee back and also you need to be careful about the hosts cancelation policies.
Thanks. Yes, I am aware that as a newbie I didn't do a thorough review.
On the other hand, I am still a bit unsure as to requesting further ID confirmation from a host. Would this be ok, or would it be seen as a problematic guest?
I think you are right to be hesitant, @Veronica582. Just make sure the cancellation clause doesn't have you loose any of your hard-earned bolívars!
Perhaps ask Airbnb to step in, this being your first experience etc.
@Veronica582 I have got booking requests from guests with only email and phone number all the time. It seems that Airbnb requires only those two.
I have Instant Booking on while I do have government ID checked. In this case, whenever a guest submit a booking request to me without government ID in their profile, it will not be booked instantly. Then I will ask the guest to upload the government ID. They usually would do it.
Airbnb should have made government ID to be required before a host can list the property and before a guest can send a booking request. This is a necessary step for reducing safety issues. Feed back can be sent to
Hi, thanks. Interesting because I was required to submit govt photo ID and a selfie to back it up! Both of which supposedly had to coincide with my profile picture. It would seem that AirBnB policies are not universal. Thanks for the suggestion.
