Issue about an upcoming Trip - would like some advice/feedback please so I am fair to the host

Hi All,

I travel using airbnb ver extensively.

I am also an expreinced host, ongoing for my place in the UK.

I'm travelling to Costa Rica soon. Staying for a month. The place was 3k, all fine. I wanted to change the dates to add on two nights, one on either side, to get better flights.

However the additional cost is 1k. 500 for each night. I asked the host why and she said because it's a busier time and there is higher demand.

It is the first time I've encountered this. If I have someone staying longer with me then if they add nights I make sure t is congruent with their current stay.

I feel like this is not too ethical and I am considerin contacting airbnb to cancel totally as I don't really want to be hosted by somoene that feels 1000 for 2 nights in a small one bed thats usually 75 a night, is ok.

However I'm aware I'm pissed off so don't want to be a tyrant about it. Am I being unfair to the host?

Thank you for your expreince and advice

Nadia

Do you use the custom calendar pricing, @Nadia206 ?  If so, I would imagine your rates change depending on your experience of the demand.  I know in my area, there are several very high demand weekends due to music festivals and the nightly rate is triple what my usual rate is.  Is this the situation where you are seeking to book?  I don't attribute nefarious motivations about the pricing, but I do understand your "sticker shock".

Thanks Linda for the helpful reply

I do indeed change the pricing for demand. But if someone has already booked and it’s a long booking, I usually will keep the price congruent.

I hear you though thanks for the balanced thoughts. I think I will book down the road for the extra two nights as that’s 150 instead of 1050!

Im in La Quinta from the 20th for 6 weeks. Gosh I love your home town! Happy new year to you.
