Messy Guests / Deposit

Greetings community!

 

Question.. Has anyone ever requested additional funds (i.e. deposit) after guests check out if the guests left the home a mess? Im a host that do not live on premises. I accepted a 2 week reservation, guest left and upon visiting home I find a mess! Cooked food still in pots on stove, many personal belongings and clothing left. Trash over flowing, etc... but nothing damaged or broken. 

Is "mess" a justified reason to withhold a portion of the deposit?

If the guest denies paying for extra cleaning, it will only be judged by Airbnb if you provide receipts for cleaning costs, pictures of the mess, and follow stricly these procedures:

Maybe clean up the stuff,  review and rate the guest below average for cleanliness, forget the annoyance,  and move on is the best option !

Be specific in your review of them.

 

Guests were easy to communicate with during booking (if they were) but failed to maintain a basic level of cleanliness in the rental. Cleaning after checkout took X hours, which is Y hours more than usual for a booking of this sort. This was very disappointing. We do not recommend this guest to any future hosts.  Don't get too detailed or your review will start to look "unhinged" (not that I think this is fair at all). 

 

Give 1  star in every category and do not recommend.
