Partial refund following a death

Partial refund following a death

I have a couple staying and are booked for 7 nights. She just heard that her father has died.

They intend to fly home tomorrow. ( after 4 nights) .

Talk of refund has not come up.  Am I obliged to refund?

I maybe happy to refund part. What is a fair percentage?

thanks for any help

If they cancel through the site they are entitled to a refund as per your moderate cancellation policy.

With a death in the immediate family, cancel their stay is probably the last thing they would worry about, so I would suggest you remind them to do so.

It is a case where a travel insurance kicks in, but insurance would not cover what exceeds your cancellation policy, so it is in their own interest that they log into the site, cancel and get the refund they are owed by airbnb.  This way they will also have all the correct paperwork in place when they forward a claim to the insurance.

It is extenuating circumstances so Airbnb will consider full refund for the nights not spent if they request it.

In this case, I personally think a fair percentage is the nights not used - but it's up to you to decide if you wish to offer less than that.
