Pets on Premises , Pet - Free Property

I am an Air BNB newbie.  A home we recently  stayed at for our first experience clearly listed "no pets". Yet when we arrived, there was clear evidence (litter box, cat hair on comforter and pillow) that animals lived there. The property was nice enough, but we just have a preferenece to stay  where there  are no pets (period) due to allergies and other previous bad experiences. 

I see there are some listings that state "pets on property" but it appears that this applies to animals present during stay.

How do I filter listings in the future that will show me truly pet free properties?

When you inquire, mention that you have severe allergies, so you are happy to find a listing that has no pets. They will quickly inform you that they do have pets to avoid a bad review. Clearly this host did not want you to bring a pet, but their listing is very misleading.

@Schriber0 To help others who may have the same allergy, when you review your stay - say it was lovely however there were issues with pets and others with allergies may wish to look for somewhere that does not have pets living there when not being rented out.
