Booked a Airbnb for 4 nights. Got informed today that tomorrow I won’t have power, ac, water for 6+ hours from the evening to next morning. The power outtage occures AFTER the event I’m going to ends. Won’t be able to shower or relax after the event. What should I do??
If this is unacceptable to you, @Donovan24 , and will make it impossible to stay, you can call Airbnb and ask to be rehoused. If that's the case, tell your host this is what you need to do. Maybe he/she will have some suggestions for other places to stay. Is it an area-wide outage?
If you opt to stay and maybe just sleep while the power is out, waiting to shower until the morning, then there is nothing to do. You will be living like a local! 🙂
It’s just this building. A repair to a power supply. I can’t really sleep after. I work nights during the week and have to take meds during the night, so my sleeping schedule is different than most people. Also, I wouldn’t want a full refund. Don’t know if he could do 1 night refund though.
@Alice595 Yeah, he offered me some battery powered lantern or water to drink. I don’t want to be mean.. but it’s ruining a bit of my trip.
Hi @Donovan24
i am so sorry to hear this.
Unfortunately this is a reality that you sometimes need to face when living as a local.
I would strongly suggest you communicate your feelings with the host- as we live there we need to have contingency plans for everything. It’s only reasonable for an experienced host to do so.
You can ask for a partial refund and see what they say but remember that this problem is affecting them as well. As a host, I am always more considerate to those guests who request for things through kindness- not a dig just a personal/general observation.
i hope it gets sorted out.
yadira 🙂
Were you impacted on in the recent power outage in the greater London area?
Bring back good old fires where our ancestors & locals used to have in their homes to survive & coped without ELECTRICITY come what may, aye 🙂
@Helen427 Lol
was there a power outage? Gosh I must have missed it. 🙈 I live in London and all but generally work such long hours I miss a lot of things.
We did have a water situation a couple of months ago- whereby there was a huge shortage of water through west London for about 6 hours. Now we keep about 6 gallons of water reserves, power banks etc... but honestly in London we get even just a bit of wind and it gets crazy. For such a great city it has not been built to work around any major change in temperature or conditions... (just my opinion).
For contents a couple of years ago a group of my colleagues were late as their train was delayed due to the wrong type of leaves in the track...
have a beautiful day!
@Yadira22 sure was, across the UK hence why it's been very quiet in here from our usual UK contributors.
Maybe you are one of the lucky one's to still have electricity or be using your phone to post - be careful not to run out of battery if you are!
Hope the likes of @Quincy @Lizzie @Stephanie @Rachel0
@Ian & Marie@Huma0 @Helen3 and all you other UK folk are coping fine and snug in front of the fire.
A storm in a teacup, @Helen427, something us Brits love. Nobody I know affected (I live in London) although a few trains were stranded. And no fires - it's the summer!
There were no problems for me either, but I did hear that lots of trains had been cancelled. Thanks for asking @Helen427!
@Donovan24 This is obviously something beyond the host's control. Sometimes we just have to roll with adversity. I don't see where a partial refund would make you any more comfortable, which is the issue. You could ask the host to provide you with some pails for water and you could have a sponge bath, pour water over yourself, etc. Or if there is a tub, fill it with water before the power outage and then you'll have a lot of water to use. And the lantern will give you enough light for the evening until you go to bed. It sounds like you'll be out most of the evening, and the power is supposed to be back on in the morning, so it's just an hour or two of impact, right? Seems a tad dramatic to charactarize it as "ruining" your trip.
@Donovan24 Are you sure the power outage means absolutely NO WATER or just no hot water?
