Private room and long term guests

Hello everyone,

I am fairly new to this and have a question about hosting a private room to a long term guest. I have a private room and bathroom only listing in my home (I live here) Is it typical that the guest have access to the kitchen? I am not particularly interested in sharing my other spaces but am feeling a bit pressured to do so. I am hosting a college student for 3 months. She is staying in the area but the dorms close down for the summer so she is staying with me. I do have a refrigerator and microwave in the room. Am i being petty or silly? Thoughts?

if that’s the way it’s advertised I would stick to the way you set it up. If it’s not clear in the listing what spaces are shared and which ones are not then that’s on you to verbally negotiate with the guest.

@Kristen480 3 months without a kitchen seems unreasonable to me. Clearly if that is what you listed then you can enforce no access to the kitchen but, whilst for a few nights this is acceptable, for longer stays  it feels like you are setting yourself up for bad reviews.

@Kristen480   By feeling a bit ‘pressured’ do you mean she is hinting or asking?  Or are you perhaps a little bit sorry for her?   Three months of microwave type meals would drive me insane and as a student she is likely having to economise so eating out will not be a realistic option for her.  In your position I would allow her kitchen access between ‘X and Y’ times on the proviso that she clean up after herself and leaves it as found.
