hello,
I'm new to hosting. Furthermore I am hosting outside the U.S. but I'm a U.S citizen. I udnerstand I have to pay taxes on world wide income.
I'm curious at what point do I pay the taxes? Is it when I file my taxes or does airbnb deduct per reservation?
I'm starting off charging a modest amount since I'm new and all but I don't want to get screwed later when filing taxes and realize i have to pay a lot to the IRS. furthermore, this isn't really a business airbnb. Its my house and I travel quite a bit so renting it out when I'm out of town.
My question is how much more should i budget in per reservation for taxes?
Is there anyway not to pay taxes? If i rent it out for 14 days or less?
what percentage of the rent can I deduct if do pay taxes?
If i hire a cleaner but pay cash can i deduct?
I'm a dual citizen so how do i know which country to pay taxes to?
I know the answer might be to consult an accountant but like I said this isn't really a business so I'm just trying to figure this out myself.
Any suggestions from those who have experience are appreciated.
best
Dori
