Re: Terms for age restrictions

Re: Terms for age restrictions

Hi, I’m currently 17 but by the time I will be staying in an Airbnb I wish to book I will be 18, should I use my fathers account to book and state that I will be me using it? Slightly confused as I tried to enter my age of birth and despite being old enough at the time I wish to stay, I could not create an account, would be great to have some advice on this, thankyou!

Hello @Gareth29,

Making a reservation means you're entering into a legal contract so you must be old enough, at the time of making the reservation, to enter into a legally binding contract. That's 18 in a lot of jurisdictions.

Airbnb's terms of service require that you must be 18 to register an Airbnb account.

Presuming that your father will not be going on the trip with you, one issue with using his account is that that would then be a third party reservation. The rule is that the holder of the account from which the reservation is made must check in and stay at the listing. Airbnb doesn't officially support third party reservations and many hosts will not accept them.

You could try using his account and explaining the situation to the host. You may find someone willing to accept you but do be prepared for declines or cancellations.

Steve.

@Gareth0 Make sure you have a picture of yourself uploaded to your father's account (tell the host you did this for better trust). Explain the situation to the host, and that you will turn 18 X days before arrival, and would then be able to make your own account on Airbnb and then have the booking transferred. You'd need to call the Airbnb helpdesk for this. It's no big deal, because Airbnb does it all the time. That way the booking would be directly with you when you arrive. Explaining all this to the host would also normally show them how pro-active and responsible you are. I know it would certainly calm me down as host! Good luck!

@Gareth0 And of course, once you have your own account make sure you remove your picture on your dad's profile 😉
