The article below describes references.

It says that you have to connect your Airbnb account to your Facebook account and that you can then request references from your friends there.

The person from wwhom you request a reference must also have an Airbnb account with a profile photo.

I don't want to connect to my facebook account as I'm not sure how my data will be used and I want to be able to invite references from people who dont use facebook - have Airbnb taken away the ability to request references via email ????

Hi Steve,

unfortunately the article you refer to describes references, it does not explain how to get references.
the only option proposed by airbnb seems to be by linking through your facebook account. facebook is for friends, not airbnb people we know, professionals or past guests who could provide a reference.

if you know how we could do that by inserting their airbnb user id or their email that would be very helpful.

Hello @Francois40,

The article I linked to has a button with green text saying "View or request references". The instructions there say how to request references.

As they describe doing it only via Facebook then that must be the only option.

The article does NOT explain how to request / write references... it may have done in the past, but it no longer does... I cannot find anywhere to either write a reference or request one... If anyone knows the answer, please include a screenshot of the location... (you can take a clear 'screen shot / screen grab of part of your screen by holding down the Shift + cmd keys and number 4, then select the area of the screen you want to 'grab' using your mouse - the resulting image is saved to your desktop... - on a Mac at least, I'm not sure how to do that on a PC)

I want to invite references from people I know and have stayed in my house.  I've found lots of advice on-line that says you can do this by entering their email addresses and people have even included screen shots of the where you do this BUT I cannot find where to do this, this option doesn't appear when I look at the references page.  This is driving me crazy!

I am having the same problem. My sister just requested a reference as a guest, and I requested as a host. We both went to Facebook and saw the request on Messenger, but what then? I wrote her a reference and vise versa, but nothing came of it except that we are talking via text in Messenger. How does this work AirBNB Staff. No one yet in the community has been able to adequately help us understand the process. Maybe it takes more than 24 hours or something? But if so, please say this. So far we both are looking at our lovely references on Messenger and no place to go with it.

So how are we supposed to connect to referrals withou a Facebook account. There is no contact form for airbnb to pose theses questions only this forum and the help topics are circular and with poor information. How to move on from here?

Same here. And I am not interested in linking my FB account to Airbnb.
