Registering a property in Tasmania

Is anyone else having fun registering their property in Tasmania? Have you been asked by Council to engage a private building surveyor?

The need for a building surveyor was not mentioned when I questioned the planning depts within the Glenorchy & Hobart Councils. Nor have I read about this in the lengthy documentation issued by the State Govt re visitor accomm. 
My concern is there’s no information as to what happens if you fail to have a permit number & register your property by the Dec 4 deadline. What a shambles..
